Somaliland, the self-proclaimed independent state and often used to be claimed to be an oasis of stability and democracy in the Horn by highly compensated western lobbyists and clan propogandists, was neither stable nor democratic. It was a controlled society where no one dared oppose the ruling the clan. It was a house of cards that from a distance looked like a sturdy and well-fortified fortress. And the fortress came apart at the seams as soon as Blue Revolution touched down in Laascaanood in December of 2022.

As soon as SSC-Khatumo civil defense forces evicted Somaliland forces from Laascaanood, the disintegration of Somaliland was afoot, and another Blue Revolution started brewing in Awdal State. As the saying goes, “when it rains it pours,” and the revolt against Somaliland woke up the elephant in the room, the highly persecuted Garxajis clan, hence reviving the long dormant intra Isaaq clan strive.

Now the question many are loudly asking is: Has the Garxajis revolt come to a full fruition, and as such, is Somaliland officially in civil war?

There are three facts that support the conclusion that Somaliland is officially in civil war territory:

    1. The Garxajis clan have established two armed fronts, the Gacan Libaax Movement (Go’da Yar and Go’da Weyn) and Goof armed front based in south of Ceerigaabo in the Sanaag region. The clan has also declared that they are no longer part of Somaliland, and asked Muse Bihi to take his army away and vacate the Garxajis clan territories. “Leave our clan territories and let your Habar Awal clan territory be enough for you,” has become the movement’s rallying cry. The Garxajis have also established an alliance with SSC-KHATUMO, and have pledged allegiance to the Union
    2. Habar Awal clan leaders have publicly stated that Somaliland is back to round two of the 1994 civil war, and as such, the clan and its ‘Baha Iidoor clan alliance’ should prepare for war against the Garxajis clan
    3. Suleiman Mohamoud Adan (a/k/a Saleebaan Gaal), Speaker of Somaliland House of Elders from the Habar Jeclo clan, has yesterday publicly stated that this war is a continuation of 1994 clan war between the Garxajis and the rest of Somaliland clans. “If you don’t stop it now, we will appoint a commission to get to the bottom of it,” said Saleebaan Gaal inside the chamber of the House of Elders. This is literally taken as a threat against the Garxajis clan, and so far, it is the loudest battle cry from one of the highest ranking Somaliland officials. Saleebaan Gaal is also a man renown for his war efforts of trying to defeat the Garxajis clan in the Burco-Yaroowe civil war days.

By these statements, Saleebaan Gaal has publicly stated what the Garxajis have been saying loudly for a time now, and that this is a war between the Garxajis Clan and the Baha Iidoor group of Isaaq clans led by Habar Awal.

As such, for all intents and purposes, it can now be concluded that Somaliland is in a full fledged civil war, a return to the 1994 civil war, except the Gudubiirsi of Awdal State won’t be part of the Baha Iidoor alliance this time.
