The 45 member governing body for the SSC Khaatumo council has released a statement welcoming the election of Abduqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali and his deputy Mohamed Abdi Ismael.

The SSC Khaatumo council urged the people of Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn (SSC) to support the newly elected leadership in its quest for unity and peace, the statement went on to say.

The SSC-Khatumo council also urged the Federal Government of Somalia and International Community to play a more active role in order to achieve peace in the SSC regions.

In the past, the international community has called on the warring sides in the SSC region to cease hostilities and demanded the Somaliland withdraw its troops from the conflict area.

Unfortunately, the Federal Government of Somalia is yet to take a similar stance but instead has decided to ignore the plight of SSC by refusing to condemn Somaliland’s actions, which many view it as the Federal Government aiding and abetting Somaliland’s aggression in Las Anod.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre have come under massive backlash in recent months as the conflict in Las Anod intensifies and spreads throughout SSC due to there silence and the perceived cover they are providing for the indiscriminate shelling and atrocities in Las Anod that amount to war crimes.
