A convoy of coalition troops from the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) struck a roadside bomb while patrolling the road that links Danow and Golweyn, near the district of Bula Mareer in the Lower Shabelle region.

One military vehicle was engulfed in flames, leaving one soldier dead and another wounded, Daljir Media has learnt. The insurgent group Al-Shabaab has taken credit for the attack.

The area were the attack took place (Golweyn) was the sight of a previous massacre when ATMIS troops executed several civilians after coming in contact with a roadside bomb.

ATMIS troops stationed in this region hail from Uganda and are stationed at various Forward Operating Bases (FOB’s) and often go on patrols, in which they suffer attacks at the hands of Al-Shabaab.
