At least 10 soldiers from the Somali army where in clashes with one another near the town of Masjid Cali Gaduud in the Middle Shabelle region.

The two units in the Somali army engaged in a firefight with one another after they both mistaken the other unit for being Al-Shabaab, which initially sparked the clashes.

A senior captain from the Turkish trained Gorgor unit identified as Captain Mohamed Ahmed Abshir was among those killed, Daljir Media has been able to confirm.

The troops stationed in the Middle Shabelle region are a mix of regular Somali army personnel, Turkish trained units, Eritrean trained forces and local tribal militias that fall under different command structures, which often leads to mistrust and suspicion.
