Puntland Minister of Information responds to President Hassan Sh. Mohamud’s Friday sermon opposing Puntland democratization and issuing threats against its security: “Puntland is secure and stable and the President’s threat is one limited to him, and most likely is a forewarning of an upcoming attack against Puntland, similar to the Garacad boat landings and Suuj and Garmaal attacks by Al-shabaab during the President’s first term at Villa Somalia.”

Former FGS MP Abdibarre Jibril also responded to the President’s Friday prayer sermon on corruption and why the President remains silent on SSC-Khatumo matters: “Hassan is neither concerned about country nor people. As for accusing others of corrupt practices, does he not know that he is accused of the worst of corruption and nepotism?”
The former MP continued on, “as for warning Puntland against democratization, does he in person know of a threat against Puntland security that he is privy to or part of?”
On SSC, the former MP said, “having SSC-Khatumo as a Somalia Federal Member State (FMS) is more painful to President Hassan than facing an imminent death.”

Looking back during President Hassan Sh. Mohamud’s first term at Villa Somalia, history isn’t very kind to the President, as Galkayo saw its worst breakout of violence and clan hostilities, and both President Hassan and then Galmudug President Abdikarim Guled’s brief reign in Galmudug (Jul 2025- Feb 2017), and now the President’s special envoy to Somaliland, claimed that Galmudug state boundary runs all the way to Burtinle. Both President hassan and Abdikarim Guled daily inflamed the clan hostilities of Galkayo with rhetoric by questioning the territorial integrity of Puntland and sending armaments to clan militias in Galmudug.
On al-Shabaab landings of Garacad and their subsequent attacks on Coastal Puntland villages and towns and on Suuj and Garmaal, the FGS and then President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, similar to hostilities in Galkayo and Mudug in general, tacitly supported the attacks on Puntland.
Abdikarim Guled, because of his senseless encouragement of violence and hostilities between Galmudug and Puntland was eventually impeached by Galmudug Parliament on 25 February 2017.
As soon as President Farmaajo was elected, Galkayo hostilities came to an abrupt end, and community integration led by local youth and encouraged by then President Farmaajo has taken hold, where to this day, Galkayo remains one of the most peaceful cities in both Puntland and Galmudug.
