Omar Osman Rabeh, then a young freedom fighter of the Somali liberation front of the coast of Djibouti, was born and bred in Djibouti. He fought against the French colonization of the Djibouti coast of Somalia.

Djibouti, called then French Somalia, was also known as the Territory of the Afars and the Issas, and was part of the French Republic from 1884 until 1977 independence.

Freedom fighter Omar Osman Rabeh was wanted by the French for the assassination attempt of their appointed prime minister Ali Aref in May 1968 and was subsequently sentenced to death. As he was brought to Djibouti central square to be hanged, within minutes of the black hood going over his head, on 27 November 1968, President de Gaulle commuted his sentence to life in prison in France.

Freedom fighter Rabeh, while in jail in Occitania, France, chose to educate himself and achieved a PhD degree in philosophy from the University of Toulouse in 1979.

We will skip his trials and tribulations after the Djibouti independence, in Djibouti and in Somalia, and how Ismail Omar Guelleh stripped him of his Djiboutian citizenship, and will revisit year 2000 and after; however, upon return to Djibouti, on Ismail Omar Guelleh’s (IOG) request to became a presidential adviser, IOG deliberately made him suffer, scorned him for fighting for freedom, refused him his pay, and eventually Dr. Rabeh for lack of healthcare died in Cairo.

Dr. Rabeh’s wife recounts those harrowing events and the tricks IOG played on Dr. Rabeh while on deathbed and during burial ceremony.

With all the trials and tribulations life threw at Dr. Rabe, let us now review his predictions for the Somali nation and its people:
1. In 1985, Dr. Rabeh predicted the Somali clans will destroy the Somali nation
2. In 1968, he predicted that in year 2000 Ethiopia will conquer Mogadishu
3. With all that disintegration aside, Dr. Rabeh finally predicted a bright future for Somalia and united Somalis who would ‘break bread together’
