Pistol wielding assassins from the militant group Al-Shabaab have killed Faqay Abdulle Mayow, the former deputy mayor of Awdhigle in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region during a brazen attack Monday afternoon in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The incident occurred in the Hamar Jajab district of the capital with the deceased victim sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torse.

The Al-Aqaeda linked militant group Al-Shabaab was quick to claim responsibility following a statement released online via the pro militant website Somali Memo, which operates as a mouth piece for the insurgents.

Assassinations and bombings by Al-Shabaab targeting both regional and federal officials has been a hall mark of the group for well over a decade.

The security agencies in the Somali capital, Mogadishu are yet to address the latest spate of killings in the capital city.
