ATMIS convoy strikes roadside bomb in Jowhar

A military convoy of foreign troops from Burundi serving under the Western-backed African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) struck a roadside bomb while on patrol in the city of Jowhar in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region, according to eywitnesses that spoke with Daljir Media on condition of anonymity.

Per eye witnesses, the ATMIS-Burundian troops were on patrol in the Horseed neighborhood when one of there military vehilces struck a planted roadside bomb, damaging the vehicles.

Casualties remain unknown for the time being. The Al-Qaeda affiliated militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.

The African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) is yet to address this recent attack. Burundi has 5,000 troops deployed in Somalia that operate in the Middle Shabelle region of Somalia as part of an international peacekeeping mission.
