A blast from a land mine left three civilians dead in the Galgaduud region of Somalia, with the deadly incident occurring within the vicinity of Cali-Helle, situated near the recently liberated town of Galcad.

All three victims said to be youth were riding on a two-wheeled motorcycle when they struck a land mine buried on the road, killing al three men instantly.

The deceased victims include a South African national who returned to the Galgaduud region of Somalia on a brief trip to visit family members. Daljir Media has been able to obtain the identities of the victims which are listed below.

No group has claimed responsibility for the land mine blast. However, the opposing sides in Somalia’s conflict have been known to utilize land mines, with ordinary civilians often suffering the most.

As of 2021, three million hectares of land where cleared of land mines in territory administered by the Federal Member States of Galmudug and Puntland in central Somalia according to the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS).

Deaths and injuries from land mines and similar unexploded ordinances are a reoccurring problem in Somalia as a result of decades of conflict in the Horn of Africa nation.
