Since the execution style killing of Khadar Habeeb Ainanshe, an officer in the Somaliland army, by a soldier under his command, Borama city and Awdal state in general has seen public uprisings similar to that of Laascaanood. And similar to Laascaanood, Somaliland army has once again today used live bullets to try to quell the uprising against the ‘Isaaq clan armed occupation,’ as the people of Awdal refer to it.
As Somaliland army responded with live bullets and killed and wounded many of the protesters in Borama city, Awdal State President-in-exile today sent his sincerest condolences to his people: “Dear brothers and sisters, know injustice and oppression don’t just go away on their own accord unless they are removed and forced out. Let us keep up the struggle so in the future, this will never once again come back to us.”
He continued, “Your blood has been shed, just like they shed the blood of the people of Laascaanood. You have been hit with live bullets without a second thought by people with no trace of kindness and no fear of God. But rest assured, there will be a time when same bullets will hit back the oppressor instead of the oppressed.”
He concluded his message with the following: “My people of Awdal, today we only have two options: You are either on the side of righteousness and justice or the side of wickedness and injustice. Choose the side you are with. There are no other alternatives. Choose justice and justice is freedom, freedom.”
