Troops from the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) have reportedly shelled a densely populated town indiscriminately, according to local residents.
The incident took place in the town of Iidow-Guudow, situated in the volatile Lower Shabelle region of Somalia, which left four civilians wounded. Two of them are said to be in critical condition as a result of the shelling.
Local residents have informed Daljir Media that the attack by the ATMIS troops was unprovoked. Over the years, ATMIS troops have carried out a slew of war crimes in Somalia, which have been well documented by international rights groups.
The Lower Shabelle region were the latest shelling took place is manned by Ugandan troops serving under the AU-banner and have been deployed in the country since 2007.
