Al-Shabaab fighters launched a raid overnight targeting an Ethiopian military in the town of Diinsoor in the Bay region of Somalia.

Large blasts believed to be mortar rounds and heavy artillery could be heard hitting the airstrip in Diinsoor, were the Ethiopian troops are stationed.

The armed group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack but did not mention casualties. On a similar note, Ethiopia’s military has not addressed the situation.

Ethiopia currently has thousands of troops deployed in Somalia fighting on behalf of America’s war on terror, with the vast majority being deployed in the regions of Bay, Bakool, Hiiraan and Gedo.
