Mohamoud Gaildon, a renown SSC-Khatumo activists, yesterday sent out a call to SSC activists and leaders not to attend the Heritage Institute annual symposium in Djibouti in October, because of the institute’s track record “on the Somaliland question” in regard to the preservation of Somali unity and sovereignty. He also added that dictator Ismail Omar Guelleh too doesn’t deserve “the honor of your participation.” Ismail Omar Guelleh is accused of being a key Muse Bihi ally often supporting Somaliland forces in Laascaanood with ammunition, artillery shells and access to international arms markets.

But the conversation didn’t end there and didn’t end well either, as Abdi Aynte, founder of Heritage, responded pompously within hours with hints that SSC activists aren’t welcome in Djibouti. “You have nothing to worry about,” tweeted Abdi Aynte. Adding insults, he continued “will decline your request to participate, as they did more than 5 times before … few 100 will’ve privilege to attend.”

In an ironic twist, Ismail Omar Guelleh, one of Africa’s longest serving dictators, and now accused of flaming the hostilities in Sool, is reported to be one of the funders of the Heritage Institute with claim to fame of promoting good governance and conflict prevention.

As for public feedback, it didn’t end well for Abdi Aynte and the Heritage Institute. Muna-Layla responded, “Hipinstitute is nothing but a foreign agent to destroy Somalia. It is unfortunate that you’re bragging about destroying your country.”

Heritage gatherings are often held at Kempinski Hotel in Djibouti, the most expensive and premier venue in Djibouti. Heritage as expected will once again hold their next symposium in October in Djibouti at Kempiniski.
