On a weekly basis, often on Friday prayer sermons, Federal Government of Somalia tells us something akin to “don’t believe your lying eyes. Believe in Villa Somalia.”
Meanwhile, if politics is the art of persuasion, sports then must be the the art of merit. But in Somalia, in the administration of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, where “escaped dead people are on the loose and can’t be located,” as PM Hamza recently claimed in public, the Somali public neither has to be persuaded nor its public officials be selected on merit basis. And yes, sports too, should fall under the ‘meritless’ class. There is no need for any of that. The all-knowing Villa Somalia will handle it. Believe in Villa Somalia is the motto! And if you have any doubt about the ability of Villa Somalia to deliver, who are you then going to trust, Villa Somalia or your own lying eyes?
But wait, wait! What about Somalia’s performance at the track field in China for all the world and the nation as a whole to witness? Don’t they have any shame? No worries, PM Hamza says, believe in the President’s leadership. He will lead us to greener pastures, free from corruption, nepotism and free of dead escapees on the run?
But the Somali people responded. Silently and loudly too they said, if you ever had doubt that President Hassan was fighting corruption, nepotism, and was hard at work leading Somalia to peace, prosperity and a nation free of al-Shabaab terror, be doubtful.
If you ever thought of perhaps one day believing President Hassan’s Friday Prayer sermons at Villa Somalia Mosque, believe no more.
If you ever thought President Hassan is about to stand with SSC-KHATUMO, think of the opposite.
If you ever thought nepotism and meritocracy could per chance collaborate for a better Somalia, run for the hills.
If you ever thought clan wars were at dead-end, prepare for the worst.
If you ever had any doubt about Somalia’s federalism, have doubt no more, as federalism is today’s only savior from Hassan Sheikh, Hamza Abdi Barre, and their ilk that are howling around, never satiated, and always salivating like hungry wolves ready to devour Somalia, from men, material to honor.
Be cautious and be on guard, as you might be next on the menu.
