Because of tough economic times in the Island Kingdom, the British have ended funding the Somaliland Security Programme effective as of 31 March 2023.
In addition to the economic difficulties, the British Office Hargeisa has expressed disappointment and lack of accountability in Somaliland Security Forces, in particular during the Laascaanood protest, that the Office wrote “undermined public trust.”
The Laascaanood protests turned into the deadliest protest ever and then into a full fledged liberation war against Somaliland suppression and repression, where Somaliland forces were eventually kicked out of the city.
