Built on a quicksand foundation, to then make matters even worse, Somaliland has since establishment also developed a twisted logic to fulfill its secession quest. Because Siyad Barre regime has committed war crimes against the Isak clan that established Somaliland (and indeed Jaalle Siyaad has also committed war crimes against many other Somali clans), they say it is fair game to ‘do unto others as they have done unto you.’
Somaliland leaders have since establishment renewed clan hatred to a new level. Their ‘Faqash (derogatory term for members of Siyaad Barre clan) deserve it’ logic became the common theme in the triangle area of Hargeisa-Burco-Berbera and turned Laascaanood into ruble. The public address of former ‘foreign minister’ Edna Adan Ismail on TV to turn Laascaanood into ruble got underway. Their ‘they deserve it’ logic has turned into a war crime scene that daily unfolds right in front of the world. Innocent civilians are shelled and killed in their homes. Children are incinerated in the arms of their mothers. Unborn babies never see the light of the day.
Laascaanood water is cut off, utility machinery and water pipes intentionally blown into smithereens. And if that isn’t enough of a war crime, hospitals are intentionally targeted with high explosive shells, pediatric ward destroyed, outpatient and inpatient units shattered, pathology department blasted, hospital solar panels targeted and destroyed. No public service facility is left intact in Laascaanood. These crimes against humanity are committed for the sole purpose of making sure that the people of SSC-Khatumo submit to and remain submissive to the wishes of Somaliland leaders in their quest to secede from Somalia. But the people of SSC have other plans, a very simple plan, a plan to be a unifying force in Somalia and remain under the flag of the Somali nation.
It is time the world takes note and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. Somalis are united in their support for the people SSC, and as Abukar Arman has previously noted, “it is not by sheer coincidence that Somalis of all walks of life and political entities are now overwhelmingly supporting the Laascaanood initiative to liberate SSC-KHATUMO from Somaliland tyranny that is personified by the undemocratic despot, Muse Bihi Abdi. It is the only moral, legal Somali cause that is devoid of foreign machinations.”
With the support and unity of the people of Somalia, it is high time the international community too should be united to find justice and due compensation for the victims of Somaliland administration – the proud and never submissive people of SSC-KHATUMO.
